My TPI Journey-PART 2: TPI Screening, Charlotte, NC

/

In Part 1, I spoke mainly about my first encounter with the Titleist Performance Institute in 2010 and all the Level 1 Lives I attended as an auditor.

2016

My first time attending a World Golf Fitness Summit was in 2016. This was my first summit and first trip to the city of New Orleans.

I arrived in New Orleans a day early to catch the second day of the Level 1 workshop. No matter how much you think you know, you always learn something new and my goal as a practitioner is to be as good as I could be to help them achieve their golf fitness goals.

The following day began the 2.5-day learning marathon with amazing presenters covering all aspects of the golf fitness industry.

I got my first introduction to ELDOA from Dan Hellman and Janet Alexander in one of the early morning hands-on workshops (see below).

2017

Two-thousand-seventeen would be a breakout year for me as far as TPI was concerned. After being Level 1 certified in 2010, I finally purchased, studied for, and became Level 2 Fitness Certified in January.

Hungry for more, I traveled to TPI Headquarters in Oceanside, CA that October. All Level 3 Certifications are held at what I refer to as “the Mothership”. Visiting this amazing facility is a blast.

In this 3 day workshop, I got to hang with my mentor, “the coach”, Jason Glass, and meet two-time long drive champion Justin James for the first time.

The amount of technology they have at TPI is off the charts. It’s where the best in the world go to find out how they can play golf better.

The trip to headquarters was successful and shortly thereafter I was certified as Fitness Level 3.

Almost immediately after returning to New York, I was asked to do a dynamic golf warm-up with a group getting ready for their last round of the season at Westchester Hills Golf Club.

For those of you who don’t warm up before you play, check out this video I made back then, which will take you through the whole process. Yes, I know Tony Bennett’s music is corny, but it fits the time and Tony’s my favorite singer.

2018

The following October I went to my second World Golf Fitness Summit, this time in Orlando, FL. We didn’t know it at the time, but this would be the last gathering for six years due to the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.

The 2018 Summit provided another opportunity to learn and connect with the best in the world including Jason Glass once again, Robert Yang, Kyle Shay (co-founder of SuperSpeed Golf), as well as my friend Pam Owens.

2020

Well as all of you know, 2020 was a bit different from any other year we have ever experienced. On March 7th, I left for New Jersey once again. This would be my 3rd and final trip for another Level 1 review. I was able to see day 2 of Level 1 and the following day took my SuperSpeed Golf Live workshop since becoming SSG Level 3 certified.

By the following Friday, Friday the 13th no-less, the world as we knew it shut down, and the gym I had used for my business since 2008 shut down for what would become, forever.

Velocity Sports Performance, located on East 58th St. served as my home for 12 + years and the place where I had trained hundreds of golfers.

2023

Ok, we’ll have to do a quick fast-forward to 2023 since the 2 years following the pandemic were just a blur.

At the end of last year, I completed my Golf Level 2 certification online.

Although I do not teach golf, I did want to learn more about the physics of ball flight and the adjustments a TPI-certified teaching pro should be able to make if they have a student with physical limitations.

2024

Thanks for handing in there to the end, (well, at least for now). This past October the gang got together again (finally), once again in Orlando, FL at the 2024 TPI Golf Fitness Summit. It was another incredible three days of presentations with a focus on the importance of Ground Reaction Forces, including presentations from 6-time world long-drive champion Jason Zuback and 2-time long-drive champion Justin James.

I have scores of photos and stories about what it’s like to attend events like this, but we’ll have to end it here for now. Anyone curious and wants to know more, please just give me a call. (917) 596-8485.
