Are You Serious About Your Golf Game? Golf Performance Coach, Charlotte, NC

/

If you are, you are already aware that there’s a direct connection between how your body functions and how your body affects your swing.

That is what TPI-trained professionals call the Body-Swing Connection. The Body-Swing Connection emphasizes the importance of a golfer’s physical capabilities and how they influence the swing’s efficiency and performance.

Take these two golfers. They were both asked to perform the same task. Bent backward as far as you can. The difference is clear. Guess which one is the “better” golfer?

The video below will give you a real-life example.

Learning What You Can and Cannot Do

The first step in determining YOUR Body-Swing Connection is to see what it is you are physically capable of doing in relation to the physical prerequisites of a mechanically correct golf swing.

For instance.  In the Seated Trunk Rotation Test, we would like to see you able to rotate your upper spine at least 45 degrees in each direction.

As you can see, these players are struggling to get to the 45-degree mark (measured by the stick on the ground. OK, so what? If you struggle to get to that position you will likely:

  • Bend your elbows in an effort to get more width in your swing.
  • Stand up on the way to the top of the backswing, causing your hips to go forward (we call that Early Extension) and your shoulders to go flat (Flat Shoulder Plane).

We want this. Not this.

These are just of few examples of the Body-Swing Connection in relation to trunk rotation in the backswing. And this is done for every one of the 15 screens.

You are also aware that the Titleist Performance Institute is the worldwide leader in educating fitness, medical, and golf professionals so that they can identify and correct the things that are holding them back from playing their best golf.

You may even know that 18 of the last 20 major champions were advised by a TPI Certified Expert and that 25 of the top 30 of the top players in the world are advised by a TPI Certified Expert.

So you’ve decided to finally, get into better shape. You want your body to work the way it needs to – so you can play golf the way you want to. But you just don’t know what to do… Most golfers who attempt to improve their fitness on their own go about it the wrong way. They might buy a fitness DVD, check out some videos on YouTube, or watch what I call “golf porn” on Instagram or Facebook. Or maybe they subscribe to a golf app in hopes that it will help them play like Scottie Sheffler.

I can assure you, it won’t!

The problem with all of the above solutions is that they are not designed for you! Without knowing what your physical limitations are and what your goals are, these methods will NOT solve your problems.

Maybe you “work out” but you’re stuck doing the same old workout plan they’ve been doing for decades. I hear this all the time. “I do push-ups, curls, leg extensions.” WHAT? How is that gonna help your golf game? It’s not! That is not going to get you the result you want or need.

This exercise will not help you do anything but extend both knees at the same time while sitting on your butt!

Maybe you’re one of those golfers who doesn’t exercise, stretch, or warm up at all and go straight to the range and pound a bucket of balls hoping that the next bucket of 100 will be what gets them to the next level. Sound familiar?

Getting into golf shape takes a specific body of knowledge I have been training for, for more than two decades and I’m still learning new things every day. As complicated as it is, it’s also fairly simple. When you know what you’re looking for and how to program and do the right exercises for the right person at the right time.

Brett’s Bottom Line:

End the confusion. Stop winging it in the gym. Work with an expert coach who will guide you using a tried and true plan that will get you in better golf shape and playing better golf than you ever imagined.

“I believe Brett is one of the most knowledgeable instructors I have had the fortune of consulting and working with. I am a lifelong golfer and student of the game. I always knew that a lack of mobility and muscle flexibility limited my game, but I never understood the extent to which my lack of coordination and strength in key muscle groups, impacted my scores and overall consistency. Brett breaks everything down through an initial physical assessment and a detailed follow-up summary. Brett documents whether a client is proficient in properly sequencing the separate muscles/joints that control the swing—from a golfer’s initial backswing through the finish. After identifying a golfer’s key areas of weakness, Brett shows how improper coordination of the muscles/joints results in what most golfers label “improper mechanics.” For me, my lack of pelvic rotation and ankle mobility typically results in swinging over the top, or early extension. Brett even identified these swing issues before my initial consult, through just a short clip of my swing. Brett offers golfers the option to work with him to develop a tailored training program–one that enhances a golfer’s physical ability, coordination, and muscle memory. I would highly recommend the average and serious golfers alike to schedule a consultation with Brett!” __Kirk Stewart
