It’s as familiar as seeing a squirrel in the park. A man of a certain age who doesn’t have enough junk in the trunk to hold his pants up anymore. Nothing says old man quite like a flat butt! Why men of a certain age can suffer flat butts.
Here are two:
1)Too much endurance activity.

Most mature adults who are active are engaging in only aerobic exercises; running, biking, elliptical trainers, etc. But if you do too much endurance training you can become catabolic which is the breaking down of skeletal muscle. Sure cardiovascular exercise is important but it’s not the be-all end-all. Do it long enough and nothing will be left but skin and bones.
2) Your Sitting On It!!

The main reason your butt disappears is because you‘ve spent the last 4 – 6 decades sitting on it! Most of my clients admit to sitting 10 hours a day or more! The glutes should be the largest muscle in the body and they are designed to help us move and maintain our center of gravity. When you lose your butt you don’t just look bad in a pair of jeans, you risk the real possibility of losing your balance, and if you are over 60 that can become fatal!

From my experience, these are some of the best exercises to keep the glutes strong and functional.
1. Knee Dominant Exercises: Squats, Split squats, Step-ups (where the hip and knee are in line with each other).

2. Hip Dominant Exercises:

Hip lifts, deadlifts, kettlebell swings, box jumps, and running uphill (where the hips are higher than the knees). These functional exercises not only help you look better in a pair of pants but also help hold you up in a field of gravity. In other words, keep you vertical, upright, and walking for as long as possible.
We’ve all heard this saying before: If you don’t use it, you lose it! Ain’t that the truth! Ok guys, let’s do this.. Time to put some mass on your ass!
