Strategy #2- Begin Your Day with Breakfast

Our diet plays a fundamental role in our mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
Your Mom Was Right-Eat Your Breakfast
Hey kid! Put down that phone and eat your breakfast!
As kids, we are encouraged to eat breakfast to perform at our best. When you wake up after a night’s sleep, you’ve been deprived of water and food for 8 – 12 hours. So you first need to drink that glass of water and then prepare your breakfast. Having a balanced breakfast can even help control blood sugar levels after lunch. And controlling blood sugar levels is the key to maintaining a healthy body weight and avoiding metabolic diseases such as Type 2 Diabetes.

It’s what’s known as the second meal phenomenon or the second meal effect. So what studies have shown is that if you eat breakfast vs. not eating breakfast, your blood sugar control is much better after lunch, no matter what you eat for lunch. So it’s really critical that you eat a proper breakfast in the morning so that your blood sugar levels are better even later in the day.

Starting your day off with a coffee and a donut only sets you up for failure and fatigue! Whatever you eat or drink first thing in the morning will impact your blood sugar for the rest of the day.
A proper breakfast should have what Nutritionist and Author of Hole in One Nutrition, Robert Yang referees to a PFF’s.

PFF is the acronym for:
- Protein
- Fats
- Fiber
Here’s an example of a PFF breakfast.
An omelette with vegetables cooked in grass-fed butter or coconut oil.

Bacon or Turkey sausages

Berries

Coffee (black or with a little coconut oil in it)

This PFF breakfast will set you up for success, not just on the golf course, but in life. It is preceded by water intake, just after waking up. This will be covered in Part 3 of this series.
As Rob says, “Eat Well to Feel Well”
Brett’s Bottom Line:
You’ve got to eat breakfast first thing in the morning to stabilize your blood sugar levels and keep your brain and body fueled for success, both on and off the course
